Jorge Santiago will try and prove the old saying about third times being a charm is true when he takes to the Octagon on February 16 to face Gunnar Nelson at UFC on Fuel 7. Santiago, who is stepping in as a replacement for the injured Justin Edwards, struggled to find success during two previous runs in the organization and was cut on each occasion before compiling a number of impressive victories outside of the Octagon.
UFC officials have confirmed the change. Also notable, the bout will mark Santiago’s first in the UFC as a welterweight.
The 25-10 Santiago is coming off back-to-back wins with both results involving a first-frame finish. 23 of his wins have involved some form of stoppage including those over the likes of Kazuo Misaki, Siyar Bahadurzada, Trevor Prangley, and Jeremy Horn.
Nelson is unbeaten thus far eleven fights into his career including an opening round submission of DaMarques Johnson in his UFC debut.
