Tonight’s UFC on FOX 6 main event between flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson and John Dodson has been tagged as featuring a bout between two of the organization’s fastest fighters and rightfully so. Johnson has always been seen as an exceptionally quick competitor, while Dodson’s reputation in that regard has continued to build with each bout in the Octagon.
However, Johnson still doesn’t feel as though Dodson will be able to hang with him when it comes to movement.
“He’s very athletic, has great speed, and has power. But at the same time you can’t hit what you can’t see. I believe my footwork is going to be the difference in this fight. I’m gonna go out there, test everything he’s got, use my pressure, and see what he brings,” said Johnson to Fuel TV’s broadcast team after weighing in this week. “I believe Dodson’s very explosive. Somebody can be very calm, then they jump and pounce on you. That’s what Dodson does. Me, I’m moving non-stop. It’s like when you play Duck Hunt – the duck’s always moving, that’s me. You’ve gotta land your shot.”
Of course, given Dodson’s history of knockouts despite his diminutive frame could result in Johnson falling to Earth like said water fowl in the classic Nintendo game if “The Magician” is able to connect at any point in the fight. Dodson has scored strike-based stoppages in six of his fourteen wins, though in fairness Johnson has yet to be finished in his nineteen-fight career.
