Daniel Cormier guarantees future fight with Jon Jones

Jon JonesUFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones has shrugged off challenges from Daniel Cormier before, questioning the unbeaten heavyweight’s star-power and ability to slim down to 205 pounds for the fight. However, Jones apparently rubbed Cormier the wrong way after essentially telling him to stop talking about the match-up until it is closer to becoming a reality.

“Jon Jones, you’re firing me up,” said Cormier when asked to address the matter during last night’s Fuel TV coverage of UFC 156. “Where I’m from, you don’t tell a man to shut up. That’s one thing you don’t do. Jon Jones, you and I will get it done.”

Cormier is scheduled to make his UFC debut in April where he’ll face Frank Mir. If victorious, the former Olympian could earn a title-shot though close friend/teammate Cain Velasquez currently holds the divisional belt, possibly prompting the undersized scrapper to make the move to 205.

Meanwhile, Jones will put his gold up for grabs against Chael Sonnen at UFC 159. He has teased a potential shift to heavyweight for late in the year (or early 2014) but previously stated he wants the clash with Cormier to take place at light heavyweight after having been called out.

Does Cormier not think he can get it done at HW? What is the obsession with JBJ? Cutting 30 to 40 pounds isn’t unheard of, but with his past issues with dangerous weight cutting hope he doesn’t do something unhealthy just to prove what a big man he is.

Hatter he dosent want to fight his boy/training partner Cain which I dont really have a problem with. Forrest rumored to shed 35-40 pounds to fight at LHW. Cormier can do it. For him its just to slim down on the fat

There’s also something to be said for the opportunities that might come along with being the first guy to legitimately beat Jones (which Cormier feels he can be).
