Bryan Baker replaces Brent Weedman in Bellator welterweight tournament

Bellator Welterweight Season 8 SemifinalsAfter picking up an impressive win against Marius Zaromskis two weeks ago at Bellator 86 it looked like Brent Weedman was poised for another solid run in one of the organization’s tournaments. Unfortunately, Weedman suffered a hand injury in the bout and had to go under the knife to repair the damage. As a result, the 28-year old has been forced to withdraw from a semifinal fight with Douglas Lima.

Stepping into Weedman’s place will be former finalist Bryan Baker, facing Lima (23-5) on February 21 at Bellator 90.

“When I got the call, I was ready to rock & roll,” said an elated Baker in a press release to media. “I look at this opportunity as an absolute blessing. With our new child in the picture, this is an opportunity to make my family proud, show everyone what I’ve been working on, and let The Beast go at it like he always does. Douglas is a strong, powerful guy but I’m going to use my reach advantage and show my strength. This is my destiny.”

Baker is 18-4 in his career with eleven finishes. A longtime member of the Bellator roster, “The Beast” holds past wins under the promotion’s banner over the likes of Jeremy Horn, Joe Riggs, and Ben Saunders.
