A bout seemingly pulled from an old Strikeforce show has been booked for UFC 159, pitting light heavyweights Ovince St. Preux and Gian Villante against each other on the preliminary portion of the card. Both men called Strikeforce home for years leading up to the organization going under and haven’t fought since taking to the cage in 2012 under the company’s banner.
Newsday was first to report the match-up with UFC officials later confirming things on Twitter.
OSP has won nine of his last ten tilts including a knockout of T.J. Cook in an August outing. He holds an overall record of 12-5 with nine stoppages to his credit.
The 10-3 Villante should feel a lot of love in the arena on April 27 as a native New Yorker fighting in front of a New Jersey crowd. He is currently on a three-fight winning streak but hasn’t seen action since May.
