The UFC matchmaking team appears to have the calendar on April after a plethora of pairings were put in place on the company’s related cards including UFC on Fuel 9. With bouts between Ryan Couture-Ross Pearson and Matt Mitrione-Philip DeFries recently announced, it appears the next match-up making the rounds involves lightweights Michael Johnson and Reza Madadi. Though the latter will be an underdog in the affair, he’ll also be the overwhelming favorite in the arena considering his longtime Swedish residency.
Regional outlet MMANytt was first to report the bout. The April 6 show is scheduled for Stockholm and features Alexander Gustafsson headlining things in a tilt against former Strikeforce champion Gegard Mousasi.
Johnson had a solid winning streak snapped in his most recent rumble when he was surprisingly handled by Myles Jury at UFC 155, dropping his overall record to 12-7. Prior to the stumble he’d beaten Shane Roller, Tony Ferguson, and Danny Castillo.
The 12-3 Madadi will also be out to erase the feeling of defeat in his previous fight come showtime after losing a Split Decision to Cristiano Marcello in October. The 32-year old had won seven straight leading up to the defeat with wins over the likes of Carlos Prater and Rich Clementi. Seven of his total victories have involved a submission stoppage.
