UFC featherweight Ricardo Lamas got left out in the cold last week when the organization announced Anthony Pettis had been booked for a bout with champion Jose Aldo. While the match-up will mark Pettis’ first at 145 pounds, Lamas has won his last four fights including success against contenders like Hatsu Hioki, Cub Swanson, and Erik Koch.
With Aldo out of the picture, Lamas has started looking forward to his next outing in the Octagon and appears to already have a tentative date in mind as well as an adversary. Lamas revealed the nugget of news after fellow featherweight Chad Mendes sent him a message on Twitter in hopes of setting up a scrap.
“I already accepted a fight in May. Waiting to announce it, but I’m sure our paths will cross,” replied the 13-2 Lamas.
Lamas didn’t offer up any hints on the foe he’s facing, though a logical opponent might be Chan Sung Jung. “The Korean Zombie” has been sidelined since last summer for health-related reasons including a shoulder issue requiring surgery. Jung, who has come out with his hand raised in three straight tilts, is expected to return in the coming months and has yet to be officially booked.
