The lineup for UFC 157 was left with a hole on the prelims this week after a featherweight fight between Manny Gamburyan-Chad Mendes fell apart. Rather than let the vacancy go unfilled, the organization has decided to give two former Strikeforce fighters a chance in what is likely a “must win” situation if hoping to continue on as one of the company’s competitors.
UFC officials have confirmed welterweights Nah-Shon Burrell and Yuri Villefort will be battling it out on the February 23 card. Both men are coming off losses in their latest outings after putting together a pair of respectable winning streaks.
Burrell is 8-2 in his career with six instances of success coming by way of TKO. Comparably, Villefort is 6-1 with five finishes but hasn’t fought since falling last May.
UFC 157 is headlined by Ronda Rousey defending her bantamweight belt against Liz Carmouche and also features match-ups such as Urijah Faber-Ivan Menjivar, Robbie Lawler-Josh Koscheck, and Dan Henderson-Lyoto Machida.
