The long-rumored rumble between UFC middleweights Vitor Belfort-Luke Rockhold is rumor no more, as UFC President Dana White confirmed the two were set to collide later this year in Brazil. No specific date was offered though White did point to the tilt falling in the second quarter of 2012 (April-June).
White’s comments came earlier this morning while speaking to fans/media at the UFC on Fuel 7 press conference.
Belfort is 3-0 at 185 pounds since falling to champion Anderson Silva with his most recent in-ring appearance involving a second round knockout of Michael Bisping. The win marked the fifteenth strike-based stoppage of his career and improved his overall record to 22-10.
The 10-1 Rockhold will enter the Octagon as Strikeforce’s final middleweight title-holder and is making his UFC debut in the bout with Belfort. Nine of his triumphs occurred under the Strikeforce banner including those over Ronaldo Souza, Keith Jardine, and Tim Kennedy.
