Bellator 89 Results: Eduardo Dantas Delivers with Second Round Starching of Marcos Galvao

Bellator Season 8 MiddleweightsIt’s Valentine’s Day, giving countless MMA fans the world over a moment to pause in hopes of convincing their sweetheart it’s as good evening to stay in and watch some live action unfold on Spike TV courtesy of Bellator 89. For those lucky enough to get boxing instead of a box of chocolates and wrestling instead of red roses, the event featured a title-fight between bantamweight champion Eduardo Dantas and teammate Marcos Galvao as well as the opening round of the Season 8 middleweight tournament.

Dantas (14-3) entered the evening unbeaten four fights into his Bellator career but suffered a knockout loss on the regional scene in his most recent rumble. Meanwhile, Galvao (13-5-1) had come out victorious in a trio of consecutive tilts including a stoppage of Luis Nogueira to earn his crack at Dantas’ belt. In the end it was Dantas who stood supreme, delivering a strike-based stoppage of Galvao in the second round of their rumble. The finish came after “Dudu” landed a solid head kick and ultimately followed it up with some shots that put Galvao down, hammerfisting his way to victory shortly thereafter.

On the 185-pound front, eight middleweights mixed it up with four advancing to the semifinal round of their respective field. Specifically, the bouts are Sultan Aliev-Mikkel Parlo, Andreas Spang-Doug Marshall, Brett Cooper-Norman Paraisy, and Brian Rogers-Dan Cramer. Moving on were Aliev, Marshall, Cooper, and Cramer.

unfortunately for Bellator they havent been able to secure a decent MW division yet, its steadily getting worse each year. Brian Rogers can be entertaining but the rest of field is beyond weak. apart from a very intriguing fight that wont even be on the main card in Sultai Aliev vs. Mikkel Parlo. two unbeaten European fighters, both with a decent pedigree of finishing opponents, other than the title fight pretty much the only fight i care about on the main card. shame
