Recently news broke pertaining to a middleweight match-up between UFC icon Vitor Belfort and promotional newcomer Luke Rockhold being set to take place at some point in the coming months with the backdrop of Brazil. Now a few more details have emerged on their tilt including the specific date, location, and event.
According to Brazilian outlet TATAME, Rockhold and Belfort will battle it out on May 18 at UFC on FX 8. Rather than Sao Paolo or Rio de Janeiro, the show is expected to take place at the Arena Jaragua in Jaragua do Sul. The venue seats up to 16,000 fans and will undoubtedly be full come showtime considering the region’s love of combat sports.
No other match-ups have been linked to the card at this point in time.
Belfort (22-10) is coming off a knockout of former contender Michael Bisping, also in Brazil. The win was his fifteenth TKO and third in a row at 185 pounds. Comparably, Rockhold (10-1) is the last man to hold Strikeforce gold at middleweight and owns past victories over the likes of Tim Kennedy, Keith Jardine, and Ronaldo Souza.
