Middleweight Tom Watson entered the UFC with a good deal of hype as BAMMA champion and one of England’s biggest stars on the regional scene. Though his debut was a disappointment, losing a Split Decision to Brad Tavares, his second showing in the Octagon went much better.
Watson squared off against Stanislav Nedkov at UFC on Fuel 7 earlier today, finishing the game Bulgarian in the second stanza after a few tense moments in the opening round of action. Watson’s strike-based stoppage of Nedkov scored the 30-year old a pair of performance-based bonuses, landing checks for Knockout of the Night and Fight of the Night. Each award netted Watson $50,000 on top of his regularly contracted rate.
Nedkov also received $50,000 for his role in the rumble.
Meanwhile, Submission of the Night was awarded to interim bantamweight champion Renan Barao for his finish of Michael McDonald in the evening’s main event. Though Barao’s victory did represent the show’s only submission, the distinction was still well-deserved thanks to the 30-1 Brazilian’s slick Arm-Triangle Choke of McDonald. He too earned $50,000 for the honor.
