The reshuffling of UFC 158 due to Rory MacDonald’s injury left heavy-handed welterweight Jake Ellenberger without an opponent at the UFC’s upcoming stop in Montreal. As it turns out, the company won’t have look far if interested in setting Ellenberger up with an apt adversary.
After hearing Johny Hendricks had moved into MacDonald’s spot and was mixing it up with Carlos Condit, leaving Ellenberger without a foe to face, “Nate the Great” went on Twitter and said he was prepared to step up if needed.
“Just heard Ellenberger doesn’t have anyone to fight March 16 as of today. Just so happens I’m free that night,” exclaimed Marquardt on Twitter.
UPDATE: Per MMAJunkie, Marquardt has since been confirmed for the clash with Ellenberger.
Marquardt is coming off a decision loss to Tarec Saffiedine after picking up back-to-back victories over Dan Miller and Tyron Woodley. The former Strikeforce champion is 32-11-2 in his career with other notable triumphs over Rousimar Palhares, Martin Kampmann, and Demian Maia.

I think Nate the Great weathers an early storm and gets a late 2nd or 3rd round TKO

Pretty good replacement matchup. I think Ellenberger will be too much for a fading Marquardt.

Who knows what to expect from Marquardt. I wouldn’t bet on this one.
