Two talented grapplers appear likely to face off this summer in the form of a fight between Jake Shields and Tyron Woodley. Though nothing has been confirmed, a match-up featuring the former Strikeforce stars has been linked to UFC 161. The June 15 event is expected to take place in Canada though no specific location has been given an official thumbs up.
MMAJunkie was first to report the potential rumble, citing sources close to the situation.
Shields is returning to the welterweight division after attempting to move back up to 185 pounds where he held Strikeforce gold. The 27-6-1 Californian has ten submissions to his credit in addition to impressive wins over the likes of Carlos Condit, Yushin Okami, and Dan Henderson.
The scrap is sure to make Woodley happy considering the 11-1 grappler called Shields out shortly after finishing Jay Hieron earlier this month in his Octagon debut. The stoppage was the seventh of Woodley’s career.
