Unbeaten 24-year old Gunnar Nelson has already shown himself to be one of the UFC’s brightest young stars, picking up wins in his first two tilts under the organization’s banner. Now he’ll get a chance to prove he belongs in the upper-echelon of the division with a stiff test at UFC 160 in the form of a match-up with Mike Pyle.
Nelson is 11-0 thus far in his career, finding success against DaMarques Johnson and Jorge Santiago inside the Octagon. Seven of his victories have involved a submission with another three via TKO to his credit as well.
The 24-8-1 Pyle is one of the welterweight division’s toughest draws with 21 stoppages to his credit in addition to wins over the likes of Josh Neer, Ricardo Almeida, and Jon Fitch. He also happens to be on a three-fight run with a trio of first-frame finishes to boot.
