Gunnar Nelson-Mike Pyle slated for UFC 160

Mike Pyle - UFCUnbeaten 24-year old Gunnar Nelson has already shown himself to be one of the UFC’s brightest young stars, picking up wins in his first two tilts under the organization’s banner. Now he’ll get a chance to prove he belongs in the upper-echelon of the division with a stiff test at UFC 160 in the form of a match-up with Mike Pyle.

The fight was first reported by MMAJunkie with the UFC later confirming the information via Twitter. The show is set for May 25 and features Cain Velasquez-Antonio Silva in the main event.

Nelson is 11-0 thus far in his career, finding success against DaMarques Johnson and Jorge Santiago inside the Octagon. Seven of his victories have involved a submission with another three via TKO to his credit as well.

The 24-8-1 Pyle is one of the welterweight division’s toughest draws with 21 stoppages to his credit in addition to wins over the likes of Josh Neer, Ricardo Almeida, and Jon Fitch. He also happens to be on a three-fight run with a trio of first-frame finishes to boot.

Another solid Vet for Gunnar, if he can get by Pyle I will buy the hype.

    Agreed fan.
I’d also like to see Pyle get some recognition if he gets the win. With a win here that will make him 8-2 in his last 10 fights with his only loses coming to top 5ers Rory and Ellenberger. If Pyle derails the Nelson hype train like he did to John Hathaway, I think the man deserve top 10ers in his next couple of fights.
