It’s not uncommon to hear athletes at the tail end of their time in their chosen sport talk about making “one more run at a championship” before deciding to call it quits. However, Wanderlei Silva has never been anything but unique, and in many ways his approach to the final leg of a legendary career is fitting in that regard. Rather than talk about a potential title-shot, Silva is simply content to give back to the sport he loves by slugging it out to the appreciation of countless MMA enthusiasts.
“The Axe Murderer” took a little time to talk about his approach shortly after making weight for his bout with Brian Stann tonight at UFC on Fuel 8 where he told Fuel TV the fans will definitely be on his mind when the cage door closes.
“It’s a great opportunity for me to fight in Japan and I hope I make all my fans around the world – in Japan, Brazil, United States, Australia, Iraq…around the world. I fight for you guys,” explained Silva. “I love to fight and I’m gonna do my best.”
Asked to make a prediction, the 36-year old slugger said it will be business as usual inside the Octagon.
“I’m gonna try to take him down…knock him out. What I love to do is what I’m gonna do,” smiled Silva.
