UFC President Dana White has expressed interest in the past about creating a World Cup of sorts featuring TUF winners from international seasons with one man left standing at the end to claim the true title of Ultimate Fighter. While the organization is still fairly far away from being able to produce such festivities, fans will at least get a tease of what it might be like on Memorial Day Weekend when Colton Smith meets Robert Whittaker at UFC 160.
Smith won TUF 16 last December, while Whittaker’s crown came on TUF: Australia vs. UK the same weekend. UFC officials have confirmed the May 25 match-up.
The 3-1 Smith has two submissions to his credit, though his only win thus far in the Octagon came against Mike Ricci at the Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale. Comparably, Whittaker is 10-2 with nine finishes but was also unable to finish his foe a few months back in his UFC debut.
