Heavyweight action appears to be on tap for fans in Winnipeg, Manitoba this June when the Octagon returns to Canada for UFC 161, as a bout between hard-hitting finishers Stipe Miocic and Soa Palelei has reportedly been booked for the June 15 show. The fight will mark the return of Palelei since a single scrap in 2007.
UFC officials have yet to announce the tilt though Fight News Australia confirmed the Aussie’s involvement.
Miocic suffered the first stumble of his career last September in a scrap with Stefan Struve. Prior to the loss he’d won nine fights including success against Joey Beltran and Shane Del Rosario.
Though Miocic has scored a stoppage in all but one of his wins, the 18-3 Palelei owns the impressive distinction of each of his victories featuring either a TKO or submission. Even more noteworthy, fourteen of the finishes have come in the first frame of action. He has won ten of his last eleven fights with the only blemish coming to unbeaten powerhouse Daniel Cormier.
