Bellator welterweight Douglas Lima was set to lock horns with fellow Season 8 Tournament finalist Ben Saunders in a couple of weeks until suffering a setback related to damage sustained in his semifinal bout with Bryan Baker. According to an official announcement from the organization, the 25-year old broke his hand in the match-up and had to get surgery to repair the damage. As a result, his scrap with Saunders at Bellator 93 has been pushed back until Summer Series 2013.
“I’m really disappointed, but I know this is the right decision and I just need to heal up and get my $100,000 prize,” explained Lima in a press release announcing the unfortunate news. “Ben is a great guy, but he’s been in my way before, and I want my rematch with Ben Askren.”
The 24-5 Lima lost to the unbeaten champion last April after a five-round drumming from the top flight wrestler. The fight is also his only loss in thirteen tilts. Meanwhile, “The Phenom” beat Saunders with a second-round knockout to earn his initial crack at Askren.
