Space on the lineup for UFC on FX 8 is starting to be in short supply after a trio of tilts was recently added to the May 18 show. And, as Brazilian fans have come to expect when the UFC rolls through town, all three feature a fighter who hails from the region.
Specifically, bouts between Roger Hollett-Fabio Maldonado, Mike Rio-Francisco Trinaldo, and Francisco Rivera-Hugo Viana will all unfold on the card. The first two tilts were confirmed by UFC officials with MMAWeekly revealing the third.
Maldonado won the MMA world over with a gutsy showing against Glover Teixeira last October. However, the 18-6 slugger has lost three fights in a row and is in need of a win if hoping to secure his spot on the roster despite his entertaining approach to competition. Comparably, Hollett holds an overall record of 13-4 with eleven finishes. He too is coming off a loss after falling on the scorecards to Matt Hamill at UFC 152 in his Octagon debut.
The 9-2 Rivera is on a four-fight winning streak including a knockout of Edwin Figueroa last February. Meanwhile, Viana – nicknamed “Wolverine” – is unbeaten thus far seven scraps into his career.
Also a “Wolverine”, Rio is 9-1 with the momentum of victories in his last three match-ups. In “Massaranduba” the Miami native will face a fellow Ultimate Fighter alumnus possessing a 12-2 mark and nine stoppages to his credit.
