Alistair Overeem out of UFC 160 due to injury

Junior dos SantosThe UFC is without one of the year’s most anticipated heavyweight match-ups of the year after it was revealed Alistair Overeem had been forced out of a fight with former champion Junior dos Santos after suffering an undisclosed injury while training for the tilt. The bout was scheduled for May 25 at UFC 160.

MMAFighting was first to report the matter though UFC officials haven’t confirmed the change.

The 36-12 Overeem had an eleven-fight winning streak snapped by Antonio Silva last month. He is expected to miss 4-6 weeks before returning to action.

Dos Santos is coming off a strike-based stoppage to current champion Cain Velasquez. Prior to the stumble he’d gone 15-1 with wins over Frank Mir, Shane Carwin, Fabricio Werdum, Roy Nelson, and Velasquez (who he won the title from).

I bet JDS is done with Overeem as of now. Twice this fight has been called off due to Overeem, I say JDS shouldnt ever offer the fight to him again.

Wonder if this has anything to do.with danas recent comment about test past offenders through out their camps?

I think this one had to do with his hand.

It’s also being reported that Overeem/JDS will be moved to a later date. Personally, I’d rather Hunt get moved into the JDS bout. I agree with fatoftna33, JDS should refuse to fight Overeem at this point.

Or maybe it has to do with Kizers new anti TRT measures?

Anyone else find it strange that since Overeem signed with the UFC he’s missed half his scheduled fights, been busted for banned substance, fled the country, and been arrested for misdemeanor battery. If I were Dana, I’d be a little concerned about pushing this guy to the top. Also consider that the last titles he held, he vacated one to sign with another company and refused to defend the other for over 2 1/2 years while fighting for other orgs.
The guy may put butts in seats, but at some point the risk is gonna outweigh the reward.
