Bellator moved one step closer to crowning two new top contenders tonight thanks to a slew of semifinal scraps scheduled for Bellator 92. Specifically, a featherweight foursome faced off with match-ups between Alexandre Bezerra-Mike Richman and Frodo Khasbulaev-Marlon Sandro, while middleweights Brett Cooper-Dan Cramer and Doug Marshall-Sultan Aliev locked horns to establish the last two men left standing in their division’s respective tournament.
Richman and Bezerra battled it out for three tough rounds with the former picking up a Split Decision nod due to his submission defense and powerful, precise striking. Richman will go on to face Khasbulaev after the scrappy Russian handled Sandro from start to finish. The end of the bout came in the third round after Khasbulaev pounded on Sandro who ran out of gas after valiantly fending off a number of close submission attempts.
At 185 pounds, Cooper and Marshall will meet for a crack at champion Alexander Shlemenko‘s belt. Cooper scored a knockout in the final frame of a fight he was losing on the scorecards, while Marshall earned a controversial Split Decision over Aliev who seemingly controlled the former WEC title-holder enough to have received the judges’ nod.
