The MMA community’s collective attention may be on Montreal at the moment given this weekend’s lineup for UFC 158, but the UFC matchmaking team is busy looking down the road towards summer when the organization returns to Canada for another event headlined by a title-fight.
According to a report from The Canadian Press, a light heavyweight tilt between Ryan Jimmo (17-2) and Igor Pokrajac (25-10) has been booked for UFC 161. The show is scheduled for June 15 in Winnipeg, Manitoba and will feature interim bantamweight champion Renan Barao putting his belt on the line against Eddie Wineland.
Jimmo had a seventeen-fight winning streak laid to waste last month when he lost a decision to James Te Huna despite nearly finishing things early on with a head-kick. The result was a disappointment to most after the 31-year old Canadian fared much better in his UFC debut, scoring a seven-second knockout over Anthony Perosh. He also owns past wins over the likes of Wilson Gouveia and Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou.
In Pokrajac, Jimmo will face a foe also hungry for a victory after stumbling in his most recent outing. The Croatian finisher has 21 stoppages to his credit.
