Fans in Florida will have a chance to see a quartet of competitors face off in a little more than two weeks with a pair of Bellator title-shots on the line thanks to the lineup for Bellator 94. The card, scheduled to take place in Tampa on March 28, will feature Season 8 tournament finals from lightweights Saad Awad-David Rickels and light heavyweights Emanuel Newton-Mikhail Zayats.
Bellator confirmed the card’s clashes earlier today in a press release.
The 14-4 Awad has won his last six fights with stoppages in each including sub-minute knockouts in his last two tilts. Comparably, Rickels is 13-1 with heavy hands and a solid ground game to back it up.
“I’ve got all the respect in the world for Saad. The guy has two huge knockouts in this tournament, but not too many men have been able to stand with the ‘Caveman’, and that’s not going to change March 28,” said Rickels of the match-up.
Meanwhile, the 205-pound pairing between Newton and Zayats features two men who overcame tournament favorites to earn their shot at a championship clash and sizeable paycheck. Zayats, who holds an overall record of 21-6, stopped Renato Sobral in the first frame of their quarterfinal clash, while the 20-7-1 Newton landed SportsCenter Top 10 honors thanks to a spinning backfist finish of Mo Lawal.
