On the surface there’s no reason football great Herschel Walker needs to risk his well-being by battling it out inside a cage. After all, Walker turned 51 this month and is already in possession of both fame/fortune. However, the Heisman Trophy winner still has an itch he’d like to scratch and is hoping the UFC will give him an avenue to do so.
“I would love to do it again. I absolutely love MMA. I think it’s an excellent sport,” explained Walker in an interview with The MMA Hour. “If I was younger, I would be doing it right now. Because I’m a little bit older and I have a business going, I would like to do one more fight and then, I think, it’s time for me step aside and give it to the young people. But I would love to do one more fight.”
The former NFL star also confirmed he’d like the tilt to take place inside the Octagon rather than relying on a regional show to promote his final in-ring offering.
Walker went 2-0 under the Strikeforce banner in his pair of professional bouts, scoring strike-based stoppages in both. That being said, he hasn’t seen action in more than two years with his last bout coming in January 2011.
