A featherweight fight between Clay Guida and Chad Mendes has been yanked from UFC on FOX 7 after “The Carpenter” suffered an undisclosed injury while training for the bout. The bout was set to mark Guida’s second since dropping down to 145 pounds with a decision win over Hatsu Hioki in his divisional debut.
Sherdog was able to confirm the change with sources close to the situation, also revealing a replacement is expected to be found for the April 20 event.
The 13-1 Mendes has seen a string of opponents duck out at the last minute for health-related reasons as of late, losing out on match-ups with Hacran Dias and Manny Gamburyan as the result of similar situations. The 27-year old grappler has won both of his bouts since falling to champion Jose Aldo a little more than a year ago and has been very vocal about his desire to face top competition in order to earn an eventual rematch.
