Featherweight Cristiane Santos’ return to the ring hit a minor speed bump this week after the opponent she was expecting to face at Invicta FC 5 – Ediane Gomes – was forced to withdraw from the April 5 event due to rib injury. As a result, “Cyborg” will now see action against Fiona Muxlow.
Invicta FC officials have confirmed the change. Muxlow was originally set to battle Julia Budd at the show. Budd will remain on the card’s lineup where she’ll take on an adversary to be named at some point in the coming days.
Muxlow holds a career mark 6-2 with four finishes under her belt. The 35-year old Aussie had a three-fight winning streak snapped in December after falling to former Strikeforce champ Marloes Coenen.
The 10-1 Santos is one of the most feared females in MMA but hasn’t competed in more than a year after testing positive for steroids in late 2011. Eight of her wins have featured a strike-based stoppage including those against Coenen, Hitomi Akano, and Gina Carano.
