Heavyweights Junior dos Santos and Antonio Silva have big bouts coming up in May and are typically inseparable when it comes to training time. However, with the possibility of the two locking horns later this year, it looks like both Brazilians will go their separate ways until the future becomes a bit clearer.
“They can’t train together for now. It’s a sad thing. I don’t really like it, but each one has his way, his family,” said Nogueira. “If they decide to fight, it will be a great fight. But ‘Bigfoot’ is still working and has to worry about Velasquez first. One fight at a time. I know he will win, but he has to think about the belt first, then worry about ‘Cigano.’”
Dos Santos and Silva have already agreed to tussle if each emerges from the May 25 show with a victory in tow, though neither wants to face the other without divisional gold up for grabs. As far as Nogueira’s next move, “Minotauro” fights Fabricio Werdum in early June but stated he has no interest in ever crossing paths with pupils Dos Santos/Silva regardless of the stakes at hand.
