The UFC career of Lavar Johnson has apparently come to an end after splitting a quartet of clashes inside the Octagon. Though Johnson is currently on a two-fight slide, the 35-year old was cut by the organization following a positive hit for PED use rather than for reasons based purely on performance.
MMAJunkie was first to report Johnson’s status, citing sources close to the fighter’s camp. He has also been suspended for nine months by the California Athletic Commission relating to his failed drug test where testosterone in Johnson’s system was deemed consistent with having used steroids leading up to his bout with Brendan Schaub at UFC 157.
The 17-7 Johnson has finished all of the opponents he’s beaten and picked up first-frame knockouts of Pat Barry/Joey Beltran during his run in the UFC. He has yet to comment on the current situation.
