UFC bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey is an intimidating foe for most, picking up opening round Armbar wins in all seven of her professional appearances. However, one opponent who won’t let Rousey’s reputation cloud her focus if the two cross paths is fellow UFC fighter Sara McMann.
McMann was recently asked about Rousey in an interview with Bleacher Report where she revealed her experience as an elite athlete has taught her no individual is invincible.
“I don’t view Ronda Rousey as unstoppable because I don’t view any fighter as unstoppable or any athlete in general. Everybody has strengths, and coming with strengths it’s just a natural thing that you will have weaknesses – myself included,” McMann explained. “Every great guy fighter that I follow, they have losses on their records.”
In addition to both being mortal, McMann sees some other things she has in common with Rousey and believes their shared characteristics are likely a recipe for an entertaining effort.
“We both have done our sports at a very high level, we’ve both had to perform under pressure, (and) we both have similar backgrounds as far as both of them being a takedown/throw/ground art,” assessed McMann. “I think it would be a really good fight.”
Rousey is currently on tap to serve as a coach on TUF 18 with the winner of a bout between Miesha Tate-Cat Zingano heading an opposing team. Meanwhile, the 6-0 McMann is scheduled to meet Sheila Gaff next month at UFC 159.
