WSOF 2 Results: Anthony Johnson pulls out decision win over Andrei Arlovski after early onslaught

WSOF2-PosterWorld Series of Fighting delivered a solid debut last November and will attempt to do so again tonight in the organization’s sophomore effort. Former UFC heavyweight champ Andrei Arlovski is set to face heavy-handed grappler Anthony Johnson in the evening’s main event with a knockout nearly guaranteed given their reputation for rendering opponents unconscious. The 19-9 Arlovski has come out with his hand raised in four straight fights with three strike-based stoppages in the bunch, while Johnson holds an overall record of 14-4 with a similar stat-line in terms of Arlovski’s recent run of success.

Also on tap at WSOF 2 are in-ring appearances from the likes of Tyson Nam, Kris McCray, Gesias Cavalcante, Aaron Simpson, and Paulo Filho.

Wow! Hell of a flying knee by Brenson Hansen. Way to go for the kill.

No matter how good the fights are, this production is terrible. And I’ll give them a pass on the 15 min of no video simply because Harris and Bas didn’t know their audio was on and it was hilarious.

  • Dufresne says:

WTF?!? The stream on their website just stopped right before a fight!

  • Dufresne says:

And the stream is back, but the fight just ended. God damnit.

Caught most of that fight. DAMN, that’s how you get a guy from riding your back! Nice show of heart and skill by Patishnock.

    Nice comeback by Glenn.

Great fights so far. JZ’s cut may not have been the worst I’ve seen, but he was getting tooled on the feet. Honestly, the docs probably saved him from a TKO loss.

  • MCM says:

bullshit stoppage. Gaethji looked good, but he seemed to be slowing down and I would have liked to see how he came out in the 2nd. Shitty loss for GZ.

  • Dufresne says:

Seems like they’re a lot more likely to stop a fight due to cuts when they’re on network TV. If that had been on PPV I don’t think it would have been stopped.

  • Lord Faust says:

From what I am seeing on “the Twitterz”, New Jersey is especially bad for cut stoppages. I can’t comment either way, personally.

  • MCM says:

I know that’s a theory, but can the commission “legally” do that? Wouldn’t they have to apply the same standards for Every fight and not change them up for PPV, Network or local show?

    Hey Faust. Where u been?

Agree or Disagree: Thumb up 1 Thumb down 0

  • Lord Faust says:

Was in Montreal for UFC 158 and a much needed vacation (first real one in over 15 years). :)

Been really run down; been neglecting my favourite websites.

Damn! Burkman looked likes a fucking Champ. I think him and Fitch aught to mix it up at WSOF 3.

Great job by the ref getting in there at the perfect moment.

Filho’s either on something, or he’s done more bad stuff to himself than I initially thought. A real shame.

Agree or Disagree: Thumb up 2 Thumb down 0

  • Dufresne says:

Looks like Filho is going to be Mark Kerr 2.0. Great potential ruined by drugs and never the same after they tried to come back.

  • darth_irritable says:

Wow/ Filho’s a trainwreck nowadays. Not too impressed that Branch is unable to finish though.

    Even Bas sounds bored.

Did you guys hear this thing almost got canceled?

  • MCM says:

by the 2nd round, it just became sad. I hope WSOF lets him go and Filho calls it a career.

  • Dufresne says:

Lmao! WTF Bas? “Surely you didn’t expect this?” Give the guy some credit.

Agree or Disagree: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • MCM says:

Yeah, I heard that Duf. Apparently the cage wasn’t meeting Jersey “code”.

Anyone else think Bas may not be the the best person for post fight interviews. I love Bas but he seems to inject his opinions when he should be letting the fighters talk.

  • darth_irritable says:

MCM – is that any different from Rogan?

Agree or Disagree: Thumb up 1 Thumb down 0

  • Lord Faust says:

Bas sounds like he hasn’t paid attention to MMA since he actively competed. He speaks in generalities and clearly does zero research on the fighters he’s covering. I should be surprised both fighters in a bout are southpaw, the commentary team should not.

Just talking with my buddy about how it looked like Moraes might have hurt his right hand when he proved that he don’t need no stinking right hand.

Agree or Disagree: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • Dufresne says:

I heard there was some sort of damage to two of the pads for the corners and something happened that they had to have a new canvas shipped to them from Vegas. There was talk briefly that they might have to cancel the event.

  • Dufresne says:

He looks like a tiny Bas Rutten. And he rambles like one too.

Just more noticeable than Rogan, Darth.

Agree or Disagree: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • MCM says:

    @Duf,
Yeah, I heard the Canvas wouldn’t stay tucked properly and the corner pads were too thin so they had to get some in from another promoter. You’d think with all the MMA gyms and promotions around nowadays that things like ill fitting cages and wouldn’t be a problem anymore.

Great end to the round, but that should have been the fight.

Rumble looks like a freaking MW against AA.

Never thought I’d see Rumbe as the smaller fighter.

This is where Rogan would come in and talk about the benefits of the Thai steel cup. And inevitably mention that it goes up your ass like a g-string.

  • Dufresne says:

Rumble is gassed. He has no excuse either, he didn’t even have to cut weight.

Agree or Disagree: Thumb up 1 Thumb down 0

  • Dufresne says:

Why the hell does he keep clinching after he rocks Arlovski?

Agree or Disagree: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • MCM says:

I give this fight 29-28 AA.
But Rumble should have won by KO in the first.

Rumble has worse cardio than John Goodman.

  • Mad_Hatter_XX says:

I would be surprised if this isn’t the last we see of AA. He just got beat by an out of shape, bulked up welterweight. If Rumble had any cardio at all he would have turned out the lights on AA, instead he rocks him then humps his leg for the rest of the round.

There wasn’t one decent televised match. I bet the ratings are horrible.

In the co-main, where did that kick land? Even in slo mo it was hard to see where he got hit. Seemed he lost his footing more than got knocked down. Still should have covered up better, but seemed a bit of a premature stoppage. Branch landed far more clean, undefended shots with no stoppage.

  • AlphaOmega says:

No one here commented on the fact that at least AA was wearing ufc gloves? I didn’t get to watch the fights, but that was all over twitter, wonder if the ufc will do anything
