Jon Fitch fighting Josh Burkman in WSOF 3 headliner

Josh Burkman - Showdown FightsWelterweight Josh Burkman expressed interest in waiting for Jon Fitch to win under the WSOF banner before locking horns with the accomplished UFC veteran, but it doesn’t appear as though he’ll be getting his wish. In fact, the two have officially been booked for a bout on June 14 in Las Vegas at WSOF 3.

According to a report from MMAFighting, WSOF President Ray Sefo has confirmed the clash and said it will serve as the evening’s main event. No other match-ups were mentioned.

The 25-9 Burkman has looked sharp as of late with wins in quartet of consecutive victories including success against Gerald Harris and Aaron Simpson.

Fitch, who submitted Burkman back in 2006, will be making his WSOF debut at the event. It will mark his first fight outside of the Octagon in more than seven years. Fitch holds an overall record of 24-5-1 with past wins over some of the sport’s top talent including Diego Sanchez and Thiago Alves.

Should be a pretty decent fight, with Burkman looking to prove he is still a legit threat and Fitch out to prove he is still a top 5 guy.

I think this is gonna be a tougher fight than their last one, but I still don’t see how Fitch loses this one. Then again, he’s got a ton of pressure on him and sometimes UFC guys don’t fair so well their first time out *cough* Hendo *cough*.
