UFC lightweight Ross Pearson went into Saturday’s showdown with Ryan Couture at UFC on Fuel 9 with the understanding he was at risk of injury considering his chosen occupation. However, Pearson had no idea the worse damage he’d suffer would take place prior to their tilt and be the result of a friendly limb rather than any aspect of Couture’s attack.
While warming up backstage, Pearson missed a pad and suffered a serious injury when his foot slammed into coach Eric Del Fierro’s elbow. After some initial panic, the Ultimate Fighter 9 winner calmed down, got some quick treatment, and went out to pick up a knockout victory over Couture.
Though Pearson felt he’d broken his foot and admitted such in his post-fight speech, “The Real Deal” delivered some good news to fans today now that he’s had a little time to heal up.
“Docs said not broken! Crazy night. Still swollen but bruising come out now! Going back for another CT scan this week,” wrote Pearson on Twitter along with posting a picture of the damage.
The 28-year old Brit didn’t offer any timeframe on when he will be back in business, but his return will clearly be sooner than originally expected given the update on his condition. Pearson improved his record to 15-6 with the win over Couture, his second straight since moving back up to 155 pounds after a short stint at featherweight.
