Middleweight Hector Lombard came into the UFC with the momentum of a 24-0-1 streak behind him including wins over a number of respectable adversaries in the bunch like Alexander Shlemenko and James Te Huna. However, Lombard’s future appears to be in doubt after coming up short in two of his three tilts inside the Octagon, struggling to deal with the size of athletes like Tim Boetsch and Yushin Okami.
As a result of his recent stumbles, many have called for Lombard to dip down to 170 pounds if possible including UFC President Dana White. And, according to a report on UFC Tonight, the 35-year old judoka has been listening and is considering the drop.
Lombard also caught fans’ attention this week when he mentioned he was in the process of working with noted fitness guru Mike Dolce without going into further detail. Dolce has helped a number of Mixed Martial Artists with their diets/fitness in the past and is the “go to” guy when it comes to moving down in weight.
The 32-4-1 Lombard has finished 25 of the opponents. Both of his losses in the UFC have involved Split Decisions, while his lone victory – against Rousimar Palhares – featured a first round knockout.
