UFC featherweight Conor McGregor turned heads last weekend at UFC on Fuel 9 by beating Marcus Brimage in 67 seconds. Rather than rest on his laurels and enjoy the spoils of his bonus-winning knockout, McGregor appears to be anxious for action and recently threw his name in the hat for action in late April.
Specifically, McGregor wants to fight TUF 15 finalist Al Iaquinta at UFC 159. According to MMAJunkie, Iaquinta’s original opponent at the event – Joe Proctor – has pulled out of the pairing due to injury.
McGregor caught wind of the opening and quickly took to Twitter, sending a message addressed to UFC brass stating, “April 27th New Jersey!!! 155 lbs vs. a TUF finalist!!! WHO WANTS TO SEE IT?”
The 13-2 Irishman has emerged with his hand raised in nine straight fights. Also notable, twelve of his wins have featured a strike-based stoppage with the other victory involving a submission. By comparison, Iaquinta is 5-2-1 with four finishes but he hasn’t fought since falling to Michael Chiesa last June in the Ultimate Fighter 15 final.
