UFC welterweight Rory MacDonald has been very public about his desire to duke it out again Carlos Condit after suffering a last-second TKO loss to the “Natural Born Killer” in 2010, the only defeat of his career. And, the 23-year old almost got his wish last month before a match-up with Condit fell apart when MacDonald went down with an injury in training.
Though MacDonald is on the road to recovery and Condit isn’t currently booked for a bout, it appears “Ares” will instead face Jake Ellenberger in his next outing rather than his rival. According to an official announcement, MacDonald will mix it up with Ellenberger in Seattle on July 27 at UFC on FOX 8.
Ellenberger is 29-6 with 23 finishes including fifteen knockouts. He is currently on a two-fight run with wins over Jay Hieron and Nate Marquardt, adding their names to a resume already featuring the likes of Jake Shields, Diego Sanchez, and Mike Pyle.
The 14-1 MacDonald is on a nice winning streak of his own after having his hand raised in four straight. He was last seen picking B.J. Penn apart over three rounds to notch a lopsided decision victory last December.
