Welterweight Mike Pierce is 8-3 in the Octagon with closely-contested losses to Jon Fitch, Josh Koscheck, and Johny Hendricks. Though he may not have proven himself as being among the elite yet, the 32-year old grappler will attempt to keep on moving up through the ranks this summer in hopes of procuring another crack at a Top 10 competitor to do so when he faces David Mitchell at UFC 162.
MMAJunkie was first to report the July 6 scrap.
Pierce is currently on a three-fight winning streak including a knockout of Aaron Simpson. He holds an overall mark of 16-5 with other notable victories against Paul Bradley, Seth Baczynski, and Brock Larson.
The 12-2 Mitchell is coming off a win over Simeon Thoresen in January bounce back from consecutive losses in his first two UFC tilts. Nine of his triumphs have come by way of submission.
