It looked like the lineup was set in stone for UFC 159 considering the event is less than a week away. However, MMA is unpredictable on a number of levels including the occasional need for a last-second scratch.
According to a Tweet from bantamweight Johnny Bedford, opponent Erik Perez has pulled out of their pairing for health-related reasons. However, Bedford will still see action at the event, facing fellow TUF 14 alumnus Bryan Caraway instead.
Caraway is coming off a Split Decision stumble to Takeya Mizugaki in March but had won two tilts in the Octagon prior to the loss. He is 17-6 in his career with all but two of his triumphs coming by way of submission.
Comparably, the 19-9-1 Bedford is 3-0 in the UFC and has had his hand raised eleven of the last twelve times he’s set foot in the cage. Fifteen of his victories have involved a finish with a near-even split between TKOs/tap-outs.
