It may not be the most competitive fight on paper or the most relevant rumble from a rankings standpoint, but tomorrow night’s UFC 159 main event between light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and controversial contender Chael Sonnen is at minimum a match-up many fans wanted to see after “Bones” turned down a short-notice scrap with Sonnen last year. The two have thrown a number of verbal jabs at each other through various outlets over the past few months leading up to the bout and, in a little more than 24 hours, they will flick the literal type towards each other inside the Octagon.
However, before the two tussled they had to make things official by stepping on the scale and hitting the 205-pound mark. As expected, each did so successfully and they are now set to square off in the evening’s headlining effort.
The other 22 competitors scheduled to take to the cage in their respective rumbles also weighed in with only a single glitch in the bunch, as Nick Catone came in heavy for his preliminary pairing with James Head and will be docked some pay as a result.
