The rivalry between UFC stars Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva has been simmering since 2010 when Sonnen started insulting the Brazilian people leading up to his memorable match-up with Anderson Silva at UFC 117. Now, with a possible pairing on the horizon, Sonnen is ready to turn the heat up in hopes of having things boil over into a headlining bout.
Sonnen took to Twitter this week where he gave Silva a day to make his mind up about the meeting, offering up a little money in hopes of enticing the iconic brawler.
“Wand – you have 24 hours to accept. If you do, I will donate 10% of my purse to help schools in your hometown of Curitiba…I mean, VEGAS,” wrote Sonnen.
Silva has yet to respond to Sonnen’s challenge though “The Axe Murderer” will almost certainly be game considering his reputation as one of the sport’s legitimate legends and a tough SOB to boot. The 36-year old is 35-12-1 in his career with 25 knockouts and is coming off a stoppage of Brian Stann in one of the year’s best bouts.
