A battle between bantamweights looking to secure a spot on the UFC roster rather than be involved in the next round of releases has been booked for UFC on FOX 8 in the form of a fight between John Albert-Yaotzin Meza. Both men suffered first frame stoppages in their previous pairings with Albert actually losing his last three tilts in similar fashion.
UFC officials have confirmed the preliminary clash’s addition to the event. The July 27 card is headlined by a flyweight title-fight between champ Demetrious Johnson and challenger John Moraga with other interesting match-ups on tap including Miesha Tate-Liz Carmouche, Robbie Lawler-Tarec Saffiedine, and Rory MacDonald-Jake Ellenberger.
Albert started things off strong after competing on TUF 14 with an opening round knockout of Dustin Pague. However, he hasn’t won since, holding an overall record of 7-4 with all of his wins featuring some form of finish.
The 19-8 Meza had the unenviable task of taking on Chad Mendes in his Octagon debut with less than two weeks to prepare. Prior to the defeat he’d won eight of his nine efforts.
