Middleweight Luke Rockhold may have been Strikeforce champion but UFC on FX 8 will mark the 28-year old’s introduction to a huge number of fans whose only focus has been on action inside the Octagon. Rockhold’s headlining bout with Vitor Belfort will serve as his first foray inside the infamous eight-sided cage and, in his opinion, as hard a task as he could have asked for outside of landing a scrap with champion Anderson Silva.
“I love it. It’s pretty much the next best thing to Anderson Silva,” said Rockhold of the match-up in an interview with Fuel TV. “Vitor’s a legend. I think he’s probably the second best in the division. I’m gonna go out there and make my presence felt.”
“I want to get to the belt as fast as possible and I think Vitor is a great opportunity,” he added
Rockhold also addressed the challenge of competing in Belfort’s home country of Brazil, stating he expected to be zeroed in on “The Phenom” on May 18 rather than concerned with outside factors including the former title-holder’s association with TRT.
“It is what it is. I’m ready to fight whether he’s on it or not,” explained the 10-1 Rockhold. “I’m excited about the fight and I’m gonna win.”
