Two rumored rumbles attached to an August 17 effort from the UFC have since been confirmed, much to the delight of countless fans the world over. According to an official announcement from the organization, Matt Brown will battle Thiago Alves in what should be an all-out war between the welterweights at UFC on FS 1, while lightweight finisher Joe Lauzon will look to add to his plethora of performance-based bonuses in a match-up with Michael Johnson.
Brown has won five straight scraps with strike-based stoppages in four of them. He holds an overall record of 17-11. Meanwhile, Alves is 20-9 with eleven TKOs to his credit and past wins over Karo Parisyan, Matt Hughes, and Josh Koscheck.
Remarkably, the 22-8 Lauzon has finished all of the opponents he’s beaten and, as a Massachusetts product, should receive a ton of love from the crowd considering the event is set to unfold in Boston. Johnson is an Ultimate Fighter finalist with a 12-8 mark including success against Danny Castillo and Tony Ferguson.
Both bouts seem likely for the main card though clearly neither is headlining material. UFC President Dana White has promised a huge main event for the lineup based on it’s association with the launch of FOX Sports 1.
