UFC on FX 8 Results: Vitor Belfort blasts Luke Rockhold into la-la land

What started as a simple scrap between ranked middleweights turned into a match-up ripe with rivalry, as UFC fighters Vitor Belfort (22-10) and Luke Rockhold (10-1) butted heads figuratively (and almost literally) since being named as opponents at UFC on FX 8. Each had a chance to settle the score tonight when they collided in the evening’s main event, though in the end only one man emerged with a victory in tow.

After an evenly matched start to the scrap Belfort landed a beautiful spinning head-kick sending Rockhold to the mat. The beloved Brazilian wasted little time following up the shot, landing a series of stiff strikes to knock the former Strikeforce champ out.

Other tilts on tap in Brazil included Hacran Dias-Nik Lentz and Chris Camozzi-Ronaldo Souza. Lentz was able to control Dias for the most part with his wrestling, also landing some solid strikes along the way, and picked up the decision nod as a result. Meanwhile, Souza secured a submission in the first frame of his clash with Camozzi, putting his foe to sleep thanks to a slick Arm-Triangle Choke. After the win “Jacare” called out the winner of Belfort-Rockhold, hoping to secure a bout with “The Phenom”.

    Predictions:

    Paulo Thiago
    Gleison Tibau
    Mike Rio
    Nik Lentz
    Rafael Natal
    Evan Dunham
    Ronaldo Souza
Vitor Belfort <– I'm torn on this one, I just think Rockhold is focusing to much on the TRT issue and that that, plus octagon jitters will get to him. Although I won't be terribly upset if I'm wrong on this.

Dunham is looking pretty solid tonight.

Hell of a fight. I think Dunham takes it, but it was very close.

  • Dufresne says:

I wish I could say that was a surprise, but kudos to Camozzi for stepping in and taking the fight.

Can Rockhold join Silva & Jones as the only guys to beat Vitor in the last 6 years? Ehh…I don’t think so.

  • Richard Stabone says:

TRT seemingly negates the age differential/advantage Rockhold otherwise would have. This should be a good fight tho.

Holy f*cking shit!!! When the hell did Vitor learn a spinning heel kick to the head??

  • Dufresne says:

That’s two KO’s in a row set up by head kicks. I guess we’re gonna have to add “fast feet” to his usual “fast hands” description. That was vicious. And of course his killer instinct is world class.

Continues to build his legacy as one of the legends of the sport. Vitor brings some baggage but he’s a helluva fighter & I’d rather see him fight Silva (after Weidman) more than anybody else not named Jones.

  • Richard Stabone says:

Perhaps the Sensei Segal-inspired front kick that KO’d Vitor prompted him to work more on kicks himself.

Props to Luke for not dying to that gunshot of a kick to his skull. Holy crap he whipped that thing.

Conspiracy theorists are going to have a field day with the main event. Anybody notice how just before Belfort kicks Rockhold in the head that Rockhold nods to Vitor and seemed to know it was coming?

I would love to see Vitor/Moussasi @185 once he recovers from his injury.

  • Richard Stabone says:

Haha no, yeti…we’re watching slo-mo as Luke’s head/body prepared to defend a Belfort punch, and all of a sudden Vitor broke it off into a ridiculous spinning back kick. Hollywood’s best can’t choreograph what we watched in tonight’s main event.

  • Richard Stabone says:

Good call, creature…vitor vs. mousasi would be outstanding. I hope vitor faces him or Silva next.

  • darth_irritable says:

Holy shit. I’m supportive of legit TRT need (Hendo), but Vitor is the exact reason TRT needs to be banned. Look at that fucker.

He’s also got the same growth gut that GSP shows at times.

Give Vitor another shot at Silva. No-one else has a chance.

I agree darth give him another chance! Vitor makes every move count. Block it or pay.

Dufresne your two comments are the exact same thing I said to my friend after it happened. Only got to come in at the third round of the Dunham/Dos Anjos fight, and I have no idea what anyone said in the last two fights. Was sitting between my friend’s wife/daughter, one of which had a movie cranked on her iphone, the other had songs/games cranked on her ipad.
