UFC featherweight Erik Koch recently mentioned interest in a match-up with Dustin Poirier and it looks like his wish has been granted. Though nothing official has been confirmed, it appears Koch and Poirier will clash on August 31 at UFC 164. Both are among the division’s top dogs but need to get back on the winning track after suffering stumbles in their previous pairings.
MMAWeekly was first to report the rumble.
The 13-3 Poirier strung together a quartet of consecutive victories to kick off his UFC career but has come up short in two of his last three tilts. However, recent struggles aside, he has scored stoppages in the vast majority of his victories including submissions of Max Holloway, Jonathan Brookins, and Pablo Garza under the organization’s banner.
Koch, who trains in Milwaukee where the event is being held, was set for a title-shot in 2012 before an injury cost him the opportunity. He is 13-2 in his career with ten wins featuring some form of finish.
