After months of expressing interest in an in-ring meeting and a few verbal slams along the way, UFC heavyweights Frank Mir and Josh Barnett have been booked for a bout. According to an official announcement, the scrap between former champions is scheduled to take place on August 31 at UFC 164 in Milwaukee.
Mir is coming off a pair of consecutive losses but looked tough in his last outing after a recent move to Greg Jackson’s camp. He is 16-7 in his career with twelve stoppages and past wins over the likes of Brock Lesnar, Roy Nelson, and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.
The 32-6 Barnett will be fighting in the Octagon for the first time in more than a decade, compiling a ton of wins overseas in Japan as well as a few Stateside for Strikeforce and Affliction. Like Mir, Barnett is a grappler by trade, possessing 20 instances of success by way of submission.
