The UFC has been forced to make a minor change to the lineup for UFC 162 after John Makdessi went down with injury and, as a result, pulled out of a planned pairing with Edson Barboza. Stepping in for “The Bull” will be “The Tractor”, i.e. Rafaello Oliveira.
UFC officials have confirmed the change. Oliveira-Barboza will take place on the preliminary portion of the July 6 card currently headlined by beloved middleweight champ Anderson Silva defending his title against unbeaten contender Chris Weidman.
Oliveira (16-5) has been out of action for nearly a year but is at least coming off an outpointing of Yoislandy Izquierdo. Nine of his wins have featured some form of stoppage with five submissions and four TKOs to his credit.
The 11-1 Barboza is probably best remembered for his Spinning Wheel Kick knockout of Terry Etim in early 2012. Though he lost his follow-up fight, Barboza bounced back strong in January by adding a first-frame finish of Lucas Martins to a record already featuring success over Anthony Njokuani and Ross Pearson.
