A middleweight match-up between Tom Watson and Thales Leites has been booked for the UFC’s August 3 stop in Brazil. Though far from a headliner, the bout pits two talented 185ers against each other with contrasting styles. The bulk of Leites’ wins have come by way of submission thanks to his BJJ background, while Watson has scored strike-based stoppages in half of his career victories.
TATAME was first to report the fight’s addition to UFC 163. The card is scheduled for Rio de Janeiro with other outings in store including Vinny Magalhaes-Anthony Perosh, Demian Maia-Josh Koscheck, and Jose Aldo-Anthony Pettis.
Watson holds an overall record of 16-5 including a TKO of Stanislav Nedkov in February. He also holds past triumphs over Matt Horwich and Murilo Rua.
The 20-4 Leites is on a three-fight run and is a former UFC title-contender, falling by decision to Anderson Silva in a forgettable 2009 effort.
