Kelvin Gastelum gets Paulo Thiago in his post-TUF debut

Ultimate Fighter 17 winner Kelvin Gastelum surprised the MMA community in April by coming out on top against the heavily favored Uriah Hall in the season’s final fight. Now a welterweight, Gastelum will attempt to drop a few jaws once again when he takes on Paulo Thiago at UFC on FOX Sports 2.

Gastelum announced the August 28 tilt on Twitter. The card is headlined by Carlos Condit’s attempt at avenging a loss to Martin Kampmann with other featured fights including Sarah Kaufman-Sara McMann, Robert Whittaker-Court McGee, and Donald Cerrone-Rafael dos Anjos.

The 6-0 Gastelum has finished five of the opponents he’s faced with four coming by way of strikes.

Thiago is 15-5 with ten stoppages of his own. The 32-year old has called the Octagon home since 2009, emerging victorious in past efforts against the likes of Mike Swick and Josh Koscheck along the way.

Gastelum was 5-0 when he entered the house and he went 4-0 inside the house and finished everyone of his opponents after the qualifier, two of whom were heavily favored to win the show. If Hall hadn’t have been so devastating and such a compelling personality, everyone would be talking about how dangerous Kevin is and how he might be the best undersized fighter to win TUF since Rashad Evans.

At one time Paulo Thiago might have been top 10, but he’s gone 2-4 over the past three years and he’s wins haven’t been over the best competition. I think this is a good test for Gastelum.

Yep , can’t wait to see what the kid can do against an established fighter.
I wonder if Wandy gave him any tips at the last PPV.
