Ronny Markes pulled from UFC on Fuel 10 fight after being injured in automobile accident

The lineup for UFC on Fuel 10 lost a preliminary pairing today after middleweight Ronny Markes was injured in a car accident. Markes was scheduled to battle Derek Brunson on tomorrow night’s card. No replacement will be tabbed given the short turnaround time.

MMAFighting was first to report the change, confirming things with UFC President Dana White. According to White, the wreck was serious enough to result in a concussion and back injuries for the 25-year old Brazilian.

White also confirmed Markes and Brunson will both be paid.

Markes is 14-1 and has come out with his hand raised in seven straight scraps. He is 3-0 in the Octagon including wins over Karlos Vemola, Aaron Simpson, and Andrew Craig.

That sucks. I hope Markes is OK and this doesn’t effect his career much. I think Ronny has the goods to be a top ranked fighter but he can’t seem to get enough fights to make a mark (no pun intended) for himself.

It’s always the fluke freak accidents that screw fighters up the most it seems, look at Gustaffson, tripping and hitting his head on a pole.
